Tinola Mayfield

Biography
Tinola was born in Buffalo, NY and moved to Toledo in the summer of 1996. Tinola's muses include video/ film, photography, poetry, painting and creative writing. Since coming to Toledo Tinola's work has been shown in several galleries including: Spectrum downtown gallery, University of Toledo's multi-cultural gallery, University of Toledo's Center for Visual Arts and at the Collingwood Arts Center. While in Buffalo Tinola's work was showcased at: Impact women's gallery, Tonowanda art gallery, Canisus art gallery and Kenan Center for Photography. Tinola's video poem "Black Face : A Visual Diary" was a part of the 19th annual Women in the Director's Chair and a section of the video can be seen at www.filmdeli.com.

Statement
Much of my work deals with the body and the way that the body is "coded" ie gender, sex, race. I explore the compositions of the self, the way in which identities flutter in and out of existence and become part of the collective psyche and how that informs the personal psyche. I am a feminist artist.
