Ellen Leonard Ellen Leonard Designs Artist Statement I discovered fiber art after working in watercolor, pen & ink and digitally for 20 years, as an illustrator and designer. What a creatively liberating experience it has been. I love the texture, patterns and saturation of color that fabric provides. I can dye, paint, scrounge, fold, wrinkle, tear, and manipulate the fabric for wonderful effects. Then, on top of all that, I can use metallic threads, unusual yarns and fibers, beads and feathers as embellishments. I find I am using color combinations I never used before. A whole lifetime will not be enough time to try all the ideas I have for my abstract and representational fiber pieces but I am determined to try! Artist Bio Ellen Leonard worked for 20 years with watercolor and pen & ink, as well as digitally, as an award-winning freelance artist. She illustrated and designed a variety of products that included wallpaper design, greeting cards, dinnerware, flatware and glassware, illustration of catalogs and educational children’s books, logo design, web design and maintenance. She then discovered fiber art and now creates vibrant wall hangings – both representational and abstract, using a wide array of methods to achieve texture, color and form. Her work can also be found in miniature on purses, mini wallets and bookmarks. Her work can be found in galleries and art exhibitions around the country.
