Artist Statement This series of crowd studies are an exploration of the human figure and the expression it assumes in the context of an aggregate. The multiplicities of the body's gestural language become further complex when the personal space in which that body exists is interrupted by that of another. From how we guard our personal space walking down the street among strangers to how our posture becomes open and engaged with someone with whom we are familiar, body language becomes central in communicating the figure even in the most abstract form. Yet, equally important are the passages of space in which that language is performed and exchanged, as it almost becomes the syntax by which we are conditioned to respond using our unique body language.
